What's in a Name

You would think naming your baby would be easy, but it has proved to be a huge task for us. With Brooklynn her name was very special to us. We loved the name Brooklynn and that it represented a place my family came from and we added the second N after my mom's middle name Lynn. The name also means "from the river" and at the time we lived in Budapest just a 5 min walk from the Danube river. We gave her the middle name Noelle as we felt it was really pretty together and the name means Christmas. Being in Budapest and away from family it was important to us to share our first baby experiences with our family in special ways and we announced her name to them on Christmas Day. Later we felt very strongly of giving Brooklynn a Hungarian name, since she was going to be born there, but being that we didn't want to give up either of the other two names, we decided to give her a special third name. Nikolett, which means "victory of the people".

This year we discovered that we were pregnant just weeks after my Grandma died and that our baby would be due on Oct. 29. My Grandma's birthday is Nov. 1, so she maybe could be born on her birthday. When we found out we were going to have a girl again, I knew right away I wanted this baby girl to have a special third name like Brooklynn has and I want it to be my Grandma's name. So we decided to give her the special name Carmelina, which means "the vineyard of God". Knowing that we went through names we liked, Sabrina being one of the top names that we both liked. Sabrina also means "from the river". Now I realize this time we are not near a river or at least any that have water in them, but we thought it was neat that it was the same meaning as Brooklynn's and the name derives from the following poem:
Sabrina fair
Listen where thou art sitting
Under the glassy, cool, translucent wave,
In twisted braids of lilies knitting
The loose train of thy amber-dropping hair;
Listen for dear honour's sake,
Goddess of the silver lake,
Listen and save.

In the movie Sabrina, which is by far my favorite movie of all time, they quote this poem and in the end Sabrina saves Linus from a life of no meaning and no love. The movie also takes place partly in Paris as a girl from America finds who she really is by leaving her home and traveling to a far way place. I have always felt I relate very much to this movie and her experiences and it has been very special to me. All of this making the name very special to me and Ryan liked it as well. So we decided her name will be Sabrina.

So now we are looking at the name Sabrina __________ Carmelina. We are still stuck on the middle name. I swear we have looked at every name in the history of the world! But we have yet to decide on that part yet. Hopefully we'll come up with something before she is born, but for now we are taking joy and excitement in our new little Sabrina something Carmelina who is soon to come join our family and we can't wait to meet her!
